BCS Championship Preview

The matchup is set. The undefeated and #1 ranked Florida State Seminoles will clash with the SEC Champion and #2 ranked Auburn Tigers down in Pasadena for the 2014 college football national championship. Florida State rolls into the championship as a team has decimated the opposition this year, winning by an average of 42 points per game. Auburn enters the championship on one of the biggest single season turnarounds in BCS history. This game will feature Heisman candidates Jameis Winston and Tre Mason. Winston is by far the favorite to win the Heisman, with over 3800 yards passing and 38 touchdowns on the season, while Tre Mason tallied over 1600 yards rushing and 22 touchdowns, including a 304 yard rushing performance against Missouri in the SEC championship. This will certainly be an exciting game will two explosive offenses going head to head.

There is no doubt that Florida State has been the more dominant team this season, but Auburn also had the tougher schedule playing in the SEC. Jameis Winston is practically unstoppable right now, even in the face of off the field controversy. However, everything has been going Auburn’s way this season leading some to call them a team of destiny. Miracles against Georgia and two time defending national champion Alabama, along with a Michigan State upset of Ohio State, have given the Tigers the chance to extend the SEC’s championship streak to eight consecutive titles. A key matchup in this game will be Florida State’s run defense against Auburn’s Tre Mason and Nick Marshall. Auburn was able to run all over Alabama in the Iron Bowl, so Florida State will have to figure out a way to slow them down. Meanwhile, Auburn gave up 42 points in the SEC championship and will have to play better defense in order to slow down Jameis Winston.

The line for this game opened at Florida State -7. I think that this game will be close early, but eventually Florida State will overpower Auburn in the second half, so I’ll take the Seminoles with the spread 34-21.
