Microsoft announced the long-awaited next generation Xbox console today, officially called the Xbox One. The name comes from the idea that the system will be an all-in-one device that combines gaming, entertainment, and television. The console includes 8GB of RAM, an 8-Core CPU, a 500GB hard drive, a Blu-ray drive, HDMI in and out ports, USB 3.0, 802.11n wireless, and a 500 GB hard drive. It will also feature a newer version of Kinect, which will ship with the console, and not require an always on internet connection as was previously planned. There will be 15 titles released within the first year of the console’s debut, including eight original titles. There is no word yet on the price of the Xbox One, and for right now the only thing we know about the release date is that it will be later this year, most likely around the holiday season.
After seeing demonstrations of what this new console will be able to do, along with trailers for some of its new games, I’m pretty excited for the Xbox One. The new Call of Duty trailer alone is enough to get me on board. I have been with Nintendo since the very beginning, but have long considered moving on to an Xbox or PlayStation. This might just be the console I make the switch too. Everything about it looks amazing, and having the ability to possess all forms of entertainment in one spot is very appealing. For me, switching from the Wii to the Xbox One is similar from upgrading my old phone to the iPhone 5. I am looking forward to seeing more of the Xbox One at the annual E3 convention.
